As a tribute to former Cornish Pilot Gig Rower and popular young Penzance man Chris Cox of Penzance (1986-2015) who tragically died suddenly and unexpectedly of SADS we are pleased to announce Cornishmen Mike Ellis and Geoff Hoather's ambitious 1000 mile sponsored cycle ride challenge from John O Groats to Lands End - starting on Sunday 3rd June and with an aim to finish on the evening of Friday 15th June 2018.

Mike and Geoff are local gig rowers and the aim of their challenge is to help raise money for the Chris Cox Community Pilot Gig Fund - a memorial project set up by family and friends to finance the building of a new Community Cornish pilot Gig named 'Silent Mountain' in Chris's memory and to be kept under the guardianship and care of a local gig club.

Chris Cox was a popular and passionate Cornish pilot Gig Rower (Mounts Bay/Pendeen), as well as a Cornish league basketball player and champion national Nintendo gamer who died suddenly and unexpectedly at only 29.
Read about The Chris Cox Tribute and Memorial Fund more on Facebook. Chris loved the sea and those closest to him agreed that a memorial pilot gig built in his memory would be a great way to remember him whilst providing enjoyment to others in the community and also as a means to support SADS charities in the future.

Once enough money has been raised to build the new Chris Cox 'Silent Mountain' pilot gig we pledge to also use this boat for future community rowing events to raise money for the UK sudden arrhythmic death syndrome charity SADS UK - a charity helping to save young lives by funding vital medical research, cardiac screening, lifesaving equipment (defibrillators) public education and awareness, providing important bereavement support (which Chris's family members have received) and also lobbying the government on important policy making. 12 young people on average die every week in the UK from SADS.

Please help and donate if you can. Big or small – every bit helps.

Mike and Geoff rowed with Chris for a number of years at Pendeen Pilot Gig Club in west Cornwall, and both they and Chris's family kindly ask for your sponsored donations for this ambitious adventure they are set to embark upon and for them to successfully meet their target of £2500.
We really appreciate the efforts of Mike and Geoff and we would like to encourage as many people as possible to financially support them.

We cannot thank Mike and Geoff enough for their determination and generous pledge of support in instrigating this massive challenge.

The proposed new pilot gig will cost in the region of 22,000 (our current quotation is frozen for 12 more months before expected cost inflation). We have so far raised around £10,000 from fundrasing activities and efforts are ongoing. In addition we have also locally raised hundreds of pounds to date for SADS UK .

Lets get behind Mike and Geoff and get this new pilot gig built for Chris!
