Mike Diehl York County Parks Memorial Fundraiser

On November 29, 2020, my dear sweet poppa, Mike Diehl passed away suddenly of a heart attack while hiking with his dog Claire at Rocky Ridge Park. He was found sitting on a bench by some incredible samaritans who tried to bring him back to us. We are forever grateful that he was not alone.
I lost the most important person in my life, my very best friend, adventure buddy, and North Star. He was the brightest star in my life and always guided the way. My aunt, Valerie, lost her brother who showered her with love by teasing her on every occasion he could get, gravy anyone? My cousin, Nikki, lost her Uncle Mike, who used jokes as a method of compassion, ELIZABETH. His brother, Mike, lost his best friend, hunting companion and canning business partner. Heartbreak does not even explain the feelings we all have right now.
One of the last things I did with my dad in-person before moving to Poland was hike around his favorite getaway in York, Rocky Ridge Park. We joked about how he wanted a bench in his honor one day. Well, dad you will get your wish and hopefully a whole lot more.
Rocky Ridge was my dad's home away from home. He visited the park several times a week. Sometimes alone, sometimes with his new side kick Claire, and sometimes with his "seester" Valerie and other family and friends hiking by his side. As much sorrow as we feel, I hope we can find peace in knowing that he died in a place he loved with the sun shining on his face. In a sense my dad went out the way he wanted, even though we'd give anything to get him back for just a little longer.
The money raised in this drive will go towards building a memorial bench at Rocky Ridge for Mike and to help expand the Park Facilities of York County, Pa. Considering my dad utilized the parks on foot or on two-wheels pretty much everyday, we can not think of a more worthy cause to keep his memory alive.
Once the bench is constructed we will be hosting a Celebration of Life event at some point in 2021 with all of our friends and family. Details COMING SOON both here and on Mike Diehl Memorial Facebook Page
