Dear Friends and Freelance Family,
Our brother Mike Cooney is in need. He has immediate medical needs which require surgery, chemo & radiation. Lew Shuman has signed on to be Mike's advocate to facilitate medical grants with the Sports Video Group-Sports Broadcasting Fund to help cover Mike's medical expenses. You may recall SVG is the same group which helped our friends and families after the August 2016 flood. So you know, Mike was leaning toward putting his medical needs off until after basketball season. His doctor is encouraging Mike to move on this immediately. Mike is also applying for Medicaid which will help but will take time to approve. THANK YOU Lew for stepping up to the plate for Mike, and leading the way. It is my hope we can follow Lew's example regarding medical expenses and step up and support Mike with day to day living expenses. Would you please take a few moments to reflect on Mike and just consider extending a supportive hand.
I know we all have lives to live and our own expenses and financial situations to deal with. What we do-yes, it's work. But how lucky we are to do what we do, and get paid in the process? I love you all-like family. Because we are family. "Freelance Family!" And this family helps each other when one of us is in need. Mike as we all know is not the type to ask for help. For the record, he didn't ask for this......I pushed him, told him we love him, and asked him if he would let us help him so he could (rack)focus on his medical issues. I'm glad he's agreed to call his doctor and schedule his medical needs now/ASAP rather than wait until April. I'm also glad I'm able to help him, to support him, lift his burden, to be here for him to lean on. As I know he would quickly do the same for each of us.
The nuts and bolts are he needs $1,600 a month for three months to cover his house note and living expenses. If you feel so moved to help Mike, please do. Any amount will help.
