<div>Mijn naam is Julia (22) en ik woon samen met mijn vriend (23) in een huurwoning. Ik studeer psychologie (HBO) en werk parttime in de horeca, mijn vriend werkt fulltime. Onze familie woont verspreid over Europa de enige directe steun is van mijn mama en broer die nog in Nederland wonen. Mijn mama heeft zelf ook gezondheidsklachten waardoor ze niet fulltime kan werken.

<div>We weten dat iedereen zijn eigen situatie en uitdagingen heeft, maar we willen graag aandacht vragen voor onze baby Daizy.

<div>Op 18 september werd Daizy plotseling erg ziek. Bij de dierenarts werd vermoed dat hij FIP had, een gemuteerd coronavirus dat gelukkig sinds een paar jaar behandelbaar is. De eerste medicatie, onderzoeken en testen kostten al €1.200. Daarbovenop komt nog de FIP-medicatie voor 12 weken, ongeveer €400. We hadden een goed spaarfonds opgebouwd om dit te kunnen bekostigen.

<div>Helaas verslechterde Daizy’s toestand en op 30 september moesten we naar de spoedkliniek van AniCura. Daar volgden opnieuw onderzoeken, waarna bleek dat een operatie noodzakelijk was. Het was een ‘onderzoekende’ operatie: mocht er iets ernstigs gevonden worden, zou er direct worden ingegrepen.

<div>Op de avond van de operatie kregen we rond 22:00 uur te horen dat de kans op overleving ongeveer 50/50 was. Na enkele stressvolle uren kregen we het geweldige nieuws dat Daizy wakker werd, zijn koorts daalde en hij stabiliseerde. Op 1 oktober mochten we hem bezoeken in de intensive care; de artsen waren positief over zijn voorlopige herstel.

<div>De operatie zelf was een septische buikoperatie, waarbij maar liefst 1 liter pus werd verwijderd. Daarnaast zijn bacteriemonsters genomen die momenteel in een laboratorium verder worden onderzocht. Daizy bleef twee dagen in de intensive care en de kosten voor de operatie bedroegen meer dan €6.000. Dit konden wij niet in één keer betalen vanwege de overige maandelijkse kosten. Dankzij een betalingsregeling kon de operatie doorgaan, maar dit legt een zware druk op onze financiële situatie.

<div>We wachten nog op de resultaten van de resterende onderzoeken, en het is nog te vroeg om te zeggen of Daizy volledig zal herstellen. De bacteriën worden gekweekt en onderzocht in het laboratorium, wat ongeveer een week duurt.

<div>Daizy is pas anderhalf jaar oud, nog een echte baby, en verdient een eerlijke kans op een lang en gelukkig leven. Daarom zetten we ons spaarfonds in, wat het de komende maanden financieel uitdagend maakt.

<div>My name is Julia (22), and I live together with my boyfriend (23) in a rented apartment. I study psychology (HBO) and work part-time in hospitality, while my boyfriend works full-time. Our families live spread across Europe the only close support is from my mom and brother, who still live in the Netherlands. My mom also has health issues and cannot work full-time.

<div>We know everyone has their own challenges, but we would like to ask for your attention and support for our baby Daizy.
</div>

<div>On September 18, Daizy suddenly became very ill. The veterinarian suspected he had FIP, a mutated coronavirus that, fortunately, has been treatable for a few years. The initial medication, tests, and examinations already cost €1,200. On top of that, the FIP medication for 12 weeks costs around €400. We had built up a good savings fund to cover this.

<div>Unfortunately, Daizy’s condition worsened, and on September 30, we had to go to the AniCura emergency clinic. Further tests revealed that surgery was necessary. It was an “exploratory” operation: if anything serious was found, it would be treated immediately.

<div>On the evening of the operation, we were informed around 10:00 PM that the chance of survival was approximately 50/50. After several stressful hours, we received the wonderful news that Daizy woke up, his fever dropped, and he stabilized. On October 1, we were able to visit him in the intensive care unit; the vets were positive about his preliminary recovery.

<div>The surgery was a septic abdominal operation, during which 1 liter of pus was removed. Bacterial samples were also taken and are now being analyzed in a laboratory. Daizy stayed in intensive care for two days, and the surgery cost more than €6,000. We could not pay this all at once due to ongoing monthly expenses. Thanks to a payment plan, the surgery could proceed, but it has put significant financial strain on us.

<div>We are still waiting for the results of the remaining tests, and it is too early to say whether Daizy will fully recover. The bacteria are being cultured and analyzed in the lab, which will take about a week.
</div>

<div>Daizy is only one and a half years old, still a real baby, and deserves a fair chance at a long and happy life. That’s why we are using our savings fund, which will make the coming months financially challenging for us.
</div>
