Migrant Voice

Tax deductible
Migrant Voice  is a migrant-led organisation established to develop the skills, capacity and confidence of members of migrant communities, including asylum seekers and refugees. We work to amplify migrant voices in the media and public life to counter xenophobia and build support for our rights.

Over ten years Migrant Voice has mobilised and trained thousands of migrants and supported them to tell their stories in the media to millions of viewers, listeners and readers, and to speak directly to hundreds of policymakers. Many have won justice as a direct result. Read the stories of Amin and Shantel .

Almost all Migrant Voice’s limited resources are spent on campaigns for justice and ensuring migrants’ voices are heard. But the Covid-19 economic squeeze has made funding harder to obtain just when there is an unprecedented opportunity to change public perceptions - and government policies - on migrant rights.

With your donation, we can mobilise and train hundreds more migrants across the UK, amplify their voices, and create positive change that benefits the whole of UK society – reducing xenophobia and discrimination, strengthening communities and bringing justice.

More about Migrant Voice…

Migration brings a wealth of benefits to Britain. But public and media debate routinely leaves out migrant voices, and can be toxic, misleading, and damaging to community cohesion. We believe the best antidote to divisive rhetoric is real stories, told by real people.

These can be stories like that of Amin, wrongly stripped of his student visa and fighting for six years to clear his name; Shantel, a healthcare worker struggling under the burden of extortionate visa fees and the NHS surcharge; or Nas, a young man from Afghanistan who needed sanctuary in the UK. Or they can be positive stories about the contributions made by the migrants who keep our schools and hospitals running or give up their time to help those in need.

We bring migrants from all backgrounds together, discuss our concerns and translate them into innovative campaigns or research projects to ensure these important issues are not forgotten.

We deliver training and mentoring on interview techniques, pitching stories to journalists, writing articles, photography, basic film-making skills, and other means of communication.

With support from Migrant Voice, our members have made their voices heard across national and local media, including Channel 4, ITV, BBC, The Independent, Birmingham Mail and the Scottish Daily Record. Our stories have reached millions.
In the last year alone:

·      We have trained and mentored 500 people to tell their stories
·      150 of our members made their voices heard in the media
·      150 spoke directly to policymakers about the issues that affect them
·      Over 100 won justice as a result of campaigning with us

We have regional hubs in London, Birmingham and Glasgow. Membership is free and open to all migrants and non-migrants wanting to engage in creating positive change. To get involved, please contact us .
