Mighty Mulligan wont let cancer win

Donation protected
Mighty Mulligan is an almost ten year old golden retriever who has lived a wonderful life until almost exactly one year ago when he was diagnosed with a Synovial Cell Carcinoma. His mama and daddy made the scary decision to amputate his rear, right leg in order to save his life. Following the amputation and five rounds of chemotherapy Mulligan was cancer free and thriving so his parents decided to use his story to bring as much hope and happiness to the world. He raised a lot of money for the local humane society by running for the title of "King of Do Dah Day" in the Spring. He then raised more money for the Animal League of Birmingham by entering in their "Next Hot Dog" contest (he won the title of Sassiest Senior). And his biggest accomplishment happened just two weeks ago when he and his mama passed their final evaluation with Hand in Paw to become a pet therapy team. They had planned to visit with children facing cancer and cancer treatments, plus anyone else needing love and strength. He wanted to use his story to show them that they can beat it and be better than ever. But then this week his health all of a sudden rapidly declined to the point where he could not stand up on his own. His parents found out on 11/30 that a new cancer was attacking him, he had a tumor that had ruptured on his spleen. His parents were faced with the terrifying decision to either put him to sleep or have an emergency surgery to remove his spleen. While they were talking to him, trying to figure out what he wanted them to do, he laid there smiling at them and they knew he still had a strong will to live. His surgery was successful and his spleen is being sent to Auburn for an official diagnosis but the doctors are pretty confident that it was a splenic hemangiosarcoma. If that is the case it means they have a long battle ahead, but are willing to do everything possible to make sure he lives the best life possible and is able to continue the dream of being a therapy dog, bringing as much happiness as possible to people who need it most with his final time here. His parents did not want to ask for assistance through the first cancer and instead raised money for causes needing it, but now the second diagnosis being less than a year later has put major financial strain on them. The second surgery alone is over $6,000 then all of the supplements to fight it from coming back are already adding up quickly. Cancer is a terrible thing but they are not letting it win, not matter what it takes.  Mulligan still has work to do, his heart is set on bringing happiness to so many children while working with the Hand In Paw program.  Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read my story.
