Its a boy!!, Mighty Marshyl !!!
Drew and Jenna Wenninger found out at their 20 week ultrasound appointment they were having a boy. Great news, a boy to go with their one and a half year old beautiful daughter; the perfect little family. However, the same ultrasound revealed their sweet baby had a critical congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (HRHS) which consists of Tricuspid Atresia (TA) and Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). Basically, for some unknown reason, the baby's right side of the heart didn't and wouldn't develop as it should. HRHS is going to be a life-long condition for Marshyl.
Talk about scary. Marshyl had open heart BT shunt surgery three days after birth, which went pretty well. He will be in Abbott Children's Hospital for an extended period, yet TBD. His next surgery will be the Glenn procedure at 3-6 months, which will involve another extended hospital stay. Finally, and hopefully the last surgery will be what is called the Fontan procedure, which will most likely be done before he enters kindergarten. All surgeries will be at Abbott Children's in Minneapolis which is more than an hour and a half away from their home in Lafayette, MN.
While nobody wants to be in this situation, due to extended absences from work, lodging, and other expenses related to traveling and being away from home, Drew and Jenna have agreed to a GoFundMe page to help with these expenses. All donations, thoughts, and prayers are greatly appreciated.
Here is their Caring Bridge site if you want to follow their journey. Jenna does an amazing job sharing their story.
