Horses - Humans - Harmony

Donation protected

Miercoles Moon has been serving the community since 2010. We are located in a beautiful hill country setting outside of Wimberley, Texas. When students come to Miercoles Moon they are truly leaving the hustle and bustle of daily life behind and escaping to expansive views and communion with happy horses. We are commited to providing a therapeutic and holistic approach to natural horsemanship riding and horse handling for our students.  Our goal is to change  lives for the better one human and one horse partner at a time.

Miercoles Moon is a boutique facility that provides individualized attention to each student. Through studying with Genevieve Kinney and her horses, students become strong riders and accomplished horse communicators and handlers. Of equal importance, students also gain a sense of self empowerment and self confidence and build vital communication skills along the way.

But Miercoles Moon is struggling to keep it's doors open and continue serving the community. Every year a great many lessons must be cancelled due to rain and the brutal Texas heat, all because there is no roof over the lesson area ( round pen ), and this has a negative effect  on both the students' learning process and the financial viability of Miercoles Moon. We are seeking support to stabilize Miercoles Moon and to make it possible for us to serve the community year round with a roof for the round pen. With your help we can get a roof built and it will make a huge difference in so many lives now and in the future!

We are asking the community to support our effort with contributions- however small - in meeting this goal.

Thank you for your consideration and donation.

I've been loving and riding horses since I was 7 years old. When I was 9 years old, I was going through a very tough time with a lot of instability, loneliness and feelings of abandonment due to getting a bit lost in the shuffle of my parents' divorce. I remember that for that whole year my grandfather would drive me out to my aunt's and uncle's house outside of Austin every weekend where a young mare named Nicki lived, who had also been lost in the shuffle of her young owner's coming into adulthood and no longer having time to spend with her horse. My grandfather would saddle Nicki, lift me up onto her back and then sit and read the paper while she and I explored the hill country property together for a couple of hours.

These weekend rides were the highlight of my life and therapeutic on so many levels for my struggling pre-adolescent body, mind and soul. In retrospect,  I understand now that these weekend communions were of equal importance to the mare, for horses are animals whose mental and emotional health and well being depend on being part of a herd and she was living utterly alone on 25 acres. We fulfilled for each other a mutual need for friendship, community and a sense of belonging. I will forever be grateful to my grandfather for driving me all the way out there every weekend so that the mare, Nicki,  and I could help each other heal.

I tell this story to exemplify the therapeutic and spiritually fortifying nature of working with horses and that these benefits are most powerful when the approach emphasizes partnership, communication and compassion between human and horse. But there is so much more! Learning how to communicate successfully with such a large and powerful animal can engender a sense of self empowerment and confidence that is extremely beneficial to us humans, at any age or stage of life. Furthermore, learning the complex and sophisticated set of motor skills involved in technically proper riding builds strength, agility and physical accuracy that benefits us immensely in all other physical endeavors.

These are the things my horses and I help our students discover. My horses and I love our work, take it very seriously and care about our students. I am honored to serve my community in this way!

Without a roof over the round pen, Miercoles Moon perpetually struggles. Being a single mother and the sole proprietor of Miercoles Moon, I long to stabilize the business so that I can continue to serve my community with this important work.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story!!
