Midwifing the End-of-Life

When I was 33, my favorite cousin, Barbara (aged 35), was in the last stages of her relationship with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia. Although we were continents apart at the time, I bought a 'plane ticket for myself and my four-year-old son, and we headed to South Africa to be with her.
We spent time together in her hospital room until the day she died. We were alone that day, and my privileged presence with her during the last days and moments of her life changed my life forever, in the best possible way. To borrow a phrase from Steven Covey, when we live "with the end in mind," it's all precious.
Since then, I have sat with many individuals and families as they faced loss of life and dreams. I am passionate about helping others find peace with illness, loss and death, making people's final days and moments a meaningful and merciful time of healing, rather than marked by resistance and resentment. Just as people have understood the need for life coaches, the need for end-of-life coaches and midwives is even more urgent.
The first certification I plan to add to my experiential work is with the International End-of-Life Doula Association. The cost of tuition and class materials, room and board, transportation and certification is $1,540. The training is in eight (8) weeks. Please help me meet my goal!
I would also like to receive Levels I-III training with JerriGrace Lyons at Final Passages (in California) - but first things first! The cost of levels I and II (offered consecutively) is $1,809; this includes tuition and class materials, room and board, and transportation. If anyone has frequent flier miles they can donate, the total needed would be reduced by the cost of airfare to California. :)
