Midnight Marine Lake Swim

Caitlin was born with end stage renal failure. That is her kidney only functioned at 20%, She had her first surgery at 1 day old and went on to have over 80 surgeries She had her dad kidney at age 3 which has functioned amazing up until May when an allergic reaction to antibiotics started a rejection episode, The doc fought as hard as they could for the last 6 months to stop the rejection but couldn’t. They put her on the surgeons list for a fistula which is the joining of a artery and vein in her arm to form a larger vein to be able to do heamo dialysis, Her kidney function dropped quite rapid in the last month so after blood on Monday showed her kidney function at only 7% ,it was a bit of a rush to get her in for a temp heamo line to be able to start hd dialysis immediately. The surgery she had yesterday was meant to be a heamo line (vascaf) so it would be safer for Caitlin to have dialysis in hospital. Her veins collapsed so they had to go with a pd catheter (peritoneal dialysis) which is using the stomach cavity to draw all the toxins from the body. She is in a lot of pain from the surgery yesterday. Hopefully a few days rest then she can go home and wait for it to heal so the pd line can be used safely. Mum and dad will have to be trained how to use the pd machine at home as Caitlin will need dialysis every night and maybe during the day depending on how the dialysis works for her. Fingers crossed the dialysis works and does make a difference to her health as hopefully next year she may be able to have Mums kidney or her brothers whoever is a better match. So myself, Lee Fisher and my friends Joshua Harriss and Dave Rennz have decided to do our bit to help raise money for Catlin and her family. We will be doing a midnight swim of marine lake in Weston super mare. Please give generously, any amount will help. Big or small.
