Middough - Rebuilding Together 2019

37000678_1549916482886744_r.jpegMiddough is a proud sponsor of Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago and will be helping an elderly or disadvantaged homeowner with much needed repairs to their home.

The funds we raise will be used to purchase materials needed for the repair work.  On April 27 (National Rebuilding Day), Middough will deploy our team of volunteers and accomplish the home improvement tasks in one day.

This year, our homeowner is Gwendolyn Johnson, a very energetic, 83 year old single mother of 4 daughters.  She is very active in various community improvement programs.  With the help of a nearby neighbor, Johnson tries to care for three abandoned buildings on her block.  "I’ve been around here trying to keep everything halfway together,” she said. “I try to keep the grass cut, put flowers all around to make it look nice.”

Ms. Johnson is also active in the Chicago Police, 7th District, Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPs) program; a community-oriented philosophy of policing and crime prevention. With CAPS, the police, community and other government agencies work together to identify and solve neighborhood crime and disorder problems.

On Saturday, April 27, 2019 we have the opportunity to complete some home repair projects that she is unable to do on her own.  These include:

1.       A new entry door and security storm door
2.       Exterior lighting at front and back door
3.       Demolition of a non-code compliant wheelchair ramp
4.       Construction of a new stairway
5.       Repair of several interior doors
6.       Installation of stairway handrails
7.       Patching and painting
8.       Repairing electrical outlets
9.       Installation of several new light fixtures

We need your donations to purchase materials and supplies for these projects.  100% of all proceeds go directly to these purchases.  All labor is provided by volunteers.
