Unfortunately I have fallen to the hardship of my insurance denying my claim for top surgery. I never wanted to have to ask for help but with finding out that I have 6 days to raise roughly $6500, I didn't know what else to do. My surgery date is still locked in for 6 MAR 18 and with the help of my family and friends, I hope to keep it that way.
A little backstory to my struggle with transitioning while being in the military. I could not start hormones due to being a member who is on flight status so I had to wait until I finished all of my air traffic control courses. When a Soldier is on flight status they have to be on a stable dose of (whatever) medication for at least 90 days. Since testosterone is a medication that becomes increased over time until you reach a steady dose, my 90 days had to restart multiple times. Also, since I am in the military, they require a Soldier to have their "transition complete" (for lack of a better term) before they are allowed to change their gender marker in the system. That being said, I must follow all female standards until this marker is changed. Here's where the catch 22 comes in and it gets tricky. My insurnace requires me to live my life as a male in my personal and work life. It also requires me to be on hormones for 12 months. So in short, I couldn't start my hormones as soon as I wanted to and I cannot live my life as a male at my workplace because I work as a federal technician for the the Minnesota Army National Guard.
Keeping my surgery date will help me "complete my transition" and be one step closer to my gender marker change for the Army. It will also allow me to be healed and fit for the future training exercises. I have saved some money but it's almost going to take a miracle for me to pull this off on my own. Anything anyone can help contribute to support me would be greatly appreciated and I will forever thank you.
