Get Micki Home!

Donation protected
At the beginnig of May, Micki and I (Dan Scott) traveled to Minnesota to visit my daughter, Dawnette, and to celebrate her 50th bithday.

On Saturday, May 6 we were out for dinner, sitting at an outside patio, when out of nowhere, a tree fell from a neighboring park. The tree hit the side of the building, the top snapped off and the rest of the large tree landed right on top of Micki. It took about 20 people to lift the tree high enough for us to slide Micki out from under it. Within minutes, police, fire department and an ambulance were with us. Micki was rushed to North Memorial Hospital, where they have a Level 1 Trauma Center.  Micki suffered five fractures in the pelvis region: one on the back, left, in her sacrum, and four in front (two on each side) in her pubis. She sustained seven broken ribs on the left, where the tree was on her. Her lung was punctured, and she sustained a head wound. She has been in the ICU since shortly after her injury.

We're so fortunate that Micki's sister, Mimi, has come to MN to be with us during this terribly hard time. Micki is healing and we're grateful that she's showing signs of "waking up." We don't yet know how long she'll remain in the ICU and where her next move will be to. It's possible that she'll be moved to a care facility in MN for a few weeks, but nothing has been determined yet.

We are so fortunate that my daughter, Dawnette has been so gracious in letting us live at her house, use her car and lend us her friends. However, being 1700 miles from home has its drawbacks and expenses.

Our ideal hope is to fly Micki home to Oregon as soon as she's able! We would like for her to get the care and attention of her extended family and friends, as we think it will enhance the healing process for her. Though insurance pays for much of this, not everything is covered. And it's hard to know what will be covered in the upcoming weeks and months of rehab. Insurance also does not cover the cost of a medical transport flight from MN to OR. The hospital social worker has been quoted and informed us that this could cost from $18,000-$25,000. We'd like to get the ball rolling and start raising funds to GET MICKI HOME!

Thank you for your care and concern for Micki. We appreciate your prayers, thoughts and support of her and of our family.

Respectfully,
Dan
