Micke Grove Zoo and Park Revitalization Project

The Leadership Stockton Class of 2020 has selected Micke Grove Zoo as their class project. Micke Grove Zoo is the only zoo located in the San Joaquin region and is one of many zoos involved in facilitating the breeding of threatened and endangered wildlife that are on the verge of going extinct in the wild. In addition, the zoo houses many animals who are too injured to be in the wild or may not otherwise survive in natural habitats.

The Leadership Stockton class project will focus on the following: renovation of the children's play area and theater, including four new picnic tables; a new mew (animal enclosure space for animal meet and greet and child education); and renovation of the main stage and bleachers. In addition, the Zoo would benefit from a new van in order to transport animals to local schools for educational purposes.
The Zoo also has the following on their wish list in order to make the animal and children's area a nicer place. We are currently fundraising so that we may also provide as much as we can from the following list:
-Shade/ rain cover for theater area
-New flooring for entire space
-Building mural
-Training for staff (animal handling/training)
-Pre-shipment cost coverage for new animals (to bring in new species at the Zoo)
-Enrichment items/toys for zoo animals (Price ranges from $200-500)
-Archway with theater name
-Sign for show times/ theater
-Interactive display in zoo
-Photo slats on chain link
-New easy ups (4)
-Shade coverings for umbrellas in zoo/ lorikeet area.
-Lighting for theater area/Large hanging lights
-Fish and amphibian biofacts
-Animal/ Jungle Print Table cloth
-Animal structures/tubes for kids to play on
We are hoping you will pitch in any amount you can in order to make Micke Grove the place we all remember visiting as children and to bring new life to the space for the generations to come. In addition, the project will benefit the animal population and hopefully bring in new species that all can enjoy.
