Mick Racing For Cystic Fibrosis
I'm taking on the Noosa Triathlon again this year and this time it’s with Cystic Fibrosis Queensland - I’ll by swimming, riding and running to raise funds for client support and services for Queenslanders living with CF.
Last year I was stoked to have raised $1000 for Smiling for Smiddy, a charity raising funds for cancer research at the Mater Hospital. Combined with the other support donors, $360,000 for the Mater Research and Patient services were raised.
This year I have decided to fundraise for a charity that is closer to home. My little nephew, William was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. I could not think of a better charity to raise for at the moment and I am proud I can do it for people living with CF in Queensland.
Your funds will contribute directly to client support and services for Queenslanders living with CF. CFQ is on a mission to provide all of their 850 members with a subsidy to go towards purchasing their own personal nebuliser. The impact from this respiratory equipment is life giving. An adult living with cystic fibrosis will spend up to two hours in physiotherapy each day cleaning the mucus and infection from their lungs. Not only to breathe, but to support overall health and wellbeing.
$25 can buy movie tickets for a family so a child can have a break away from the hospital.
$50 can buy a Boredom Buster Bag for sick kids in hospital.
$100 will provide a PEP, positive expiratory pressure device.
$150 a physical activity subsidy for exercise that is essential for everyone with CF to help keep their airways clear.
$1500 portable nebuliser is light and compact and reduces the respiratory treatment for someone with CF from two hours to 20 minutes per day. When you are living with CF every minute counts. A nebuliser reduces daily treatment by 610 hours – 25 days a year!
