Send Michigan Mock Trial to Nationals!

Welcome!
We are the University of Michigan Mock Trial Team and we are trying to raise money to send our competitive team from Ann Arbor, Michigan to the American Mock Trial Association National Championships in Orlando, Florida! We are currently ranked top 15 in the nation (out of 600 collegiate teams), and earned 3rd place at the National Tournament last year. This year, however, the national tournament is over 1,100 miles away from us--and we need your help in order to compete!
Unlike most other university teams, Michigan Mock Trial is an entirely student run program that has existed for over 20 years. This means that undergraduate students lead all aspects of our team independent of faculty advisors or attorney coaches. Our 30-person team travels across the country and competes against other universities trying a fictional case with undergraduate students acting as attorneys and witnesses. The fact that MMT is student-run allows us to provide an avenue for competitive excellence through the development of practical, professional, and interpersonal skills for all students on our team.
However, because we are a student run program we receive very little funding from the University. Traveling to tournaments, we incur many expenses, which include tournament registration fees, hotel rooms, and rental cars. The total cost for our season comes to about $26,000 per year. Though we attempt to cut costs as best we can, host monthly fundraising events, and pay dues each semester, it is still not enough to cover the cost of sending our team to Nationals in Florida this year.
Now we're not going to Florida yet, and to make that happen we'll have to work as a team and a community. We still have to make it out of two more rounds of difficult competition; our regional competition the weekend of February 22 and our Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) competition the weekend of March 15. As a team we're training as hard as we can to make that a reality. But as much as we invest in ourselves, we also need the community to invest in us. Planning a trip halfway across the country for 20 people can't be done the night before and so we're placed in the position where we must ask for your help before we know for sure what this year's nationals landscape looks like for us. While we're confident in our performance and optimistic about our upcoming competitions we would be remiss not to mention that it's possible we don't qualify. So when we ask for your help, consider it not just as a plea for an investment in Michigan Mock Trial's 2014 nationals dreams, but an investment in those to come as well.
If we are going to make it to Orlando, we will need your help! Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us tremendously to achieve our goal to compete at Nationals.
