Michelle G. End Stage Kidney Failure

Donation protected
On November 16th, one of my dearest friends since 5th grade, Michelle Goldman, entered the hospital due to shortness of breath. Unfortunately, the shortness of breath was from her lungs filling with fluid due to end stage kidney failure and she was later diagnosed with an extremely rare kidney disease called Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis ("MPGN"). MPGN is 100% incurable, and she will die from this someday and possibly soon. This started 3 days after her 26th birthday.....

Everything they are doing now is just prolonging her life and trying to stop her kidneys from failing any more as they are currently still only functioning at less than 10% with no signs of improvement yet. They immediately started her on dialysis, plasmapheresis, and chemotherapy. Basically, this disease lives in her immune system and following a bad case of bronchitis her body decided to randomly try to kill her healthy kidneys. Her immune system views them as a threatening foreign object and is trying to get rid of them so the chemotherapy is to replace her old immune system with a brand new one. In just 3 weeks in the hospital, she has gained over 90lbs of fluid and they removed almost 50lbs in dialysis before discharge. Her symptoms and kidneys were staying stable but now they are not improving/starting to decline more as lab results show elevating levels more and more every time.

She has not worked since November 15th and will likely not be able to return to work (she lost most of her jobs as a nanny and caregiver for children with disabilities) until at least February (if she can ever return to work) due to the chemo wiping out her immune system and with no immune system, just getting a cold WILL 100% kill her. She spent 22 days in the hospital and now continues dialysis 3x a week, likely for life, and the medical bills are piling up on top of all of her household bills.

Due to the low immune system and years of rescuing/fostering animals, everything in her house needed to be thrown away so she will need to start from scratch and get new furniture, she has NO clothes, etc. as if her home was burned down and she just has to start completely over. I’m asking on her behalf if anyone is able to help.

It’s one thing after another and unfortunately her health insurance has now gone from $20/month to $448/month. She has had to sell her vehicle and her home might be next due to being unable to pay the bills. She has been staying at her moms house because she is unable to care for herself.....at 26 years old.

She does so much for the homeless community, has her own organization for donating baby items for free to low income families and rescuing animals is a huge passion of hers. Now she is the one who needs help and if anyone deserves to be helped, even if it’s something small as $5 or going to the blood bank and donating plasma, I know it would be a major stress off her with all of this going on. She needs help.

I posted a link of where you can donate plasma in Louisiana.
They also pay donors for donating so that’s an extra incentive for you. Other than that, if you’d like to donate please donate to this page or message me directly about other ways to help.

She has a very tough journey ahead of her and needs all the love, support, help, and prayers she can get. Please add her to your prayer list and send lots of good vibes.
I love Michelle very much and am trying to help take as many burdens away from her as possible.

I will continue to update this page on her condition throughout the process and she will be posting as well. Thank you and God bless.
