Tragedy struck our family in September 2017. Our daughter Michelle was a victim of domestic violence and was shot 6 times.
By the grace of God Michelle survived. She was rushed to the hospital with 4 bullet wounds to her abdomen, one to her femur and the other to her hip. Surgeons performed 2 very extensive surgeries to remove the bullets from her abdomen and hip. They could not remove the bullet from her femur, and there are still bullet fragments in her hip. She has a plate in her femur and pins in her hip to support it. After several weeks in the critical unit and in a rehabilitation facility, Michelle's recovery is very slow. She is currently using a cane and will require 3 more surgeries with more rehabilitation and physical therapy. Michelle is undergoing extensive therapy and grief counselling, which she will require for a very long time as she tries to deal with the emotional and physical effect this has had on her life. As you can imagine, the medical bills and her everyday expenses are staggering.
