*NEW UPDATE* Michelle’s battle with cancer has now taken a different direction. Tomorrow she faces her newest challenge of open brain surgery. I know you are constantly being asked to donate to various causes, and we all live with every day challenges. But most of us are lucky and can step away and take a break. Michelle can’t do that - she lives with her struggle every day. Add to that her mounting medical bills and she’s got a lot on her plate. *UPDATE* Michelle’s battle continues with some new findings and additional treatments scheduled. Although as always she storms ahead with her usual strength and good humor, Michelle’s medical bills have already started flowing in. Everyone lucky enough to know Michelle Stearnes knows that she is a star in our community. Michelle is a dogged advocate for justice, speaking up for our disabled family and friends, fighting against those who claim history while cloaked in racism and the Confederate flag, and championing civil and women’s rights. She is fearless, whether standing up to dismissive leaders in our Capitol, or promoting a clean and healthy environment. Michelle is a 2018 Women Lead, Women Empowered nominee, which recognizes strong women who have led, inspired or served in our community. Michelle has done and continues to do all of that.
In her “spare” time Michelle has volunteered with Hotdogs for the Homeless, as well as rescuing and fostering dozens of abandoned animals. The size and depth of her superhero heart is incredible.
But superheroes aren’t always made of steel. Michelle was recently diagnosed with a mass on her lungs. While her prognosis is good, a huge amount of time will need to be devoted to her treatment over the coming weeks. Her chemotherapy and radiation will be intensive and will cause her to miss work as well as incur costs related to her medical care. Please, friends, if you can give even just a small amount, all of our small amounts together will go so far to help get this warrior back on her feet with us where she belongs ❤️
We are also requesting help getting Michelle to her treatments and/or doctors' appointments, as well as possibly helping around the house as needs arise. Michelle has set up a Facebook group on Messenger to allow her to easily manage any offers of help.
