MICHELLE NEEDS A KIDNEY

The goal of this fundraiser is to support Michelle financially while she takes time off work to focus on necessary medical treatments prior to receiving a kidney transplant.
The plan for her treatment is to begin dialysis in the next two weeks (mid August), as her kidneys have failed completely. Dialysis is a life saving measure used to remove the toxins that build up in the blood. Hemodialysis is done in hospital, 3 days per week, for 4-5 hours each treatment. Some symptoms of kidney failure include: loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, seizures, memory deficit and shortness of breath. Dialysis continues for the rest of life, or until the patient receives a kidney transplant.
When Michelle was five years old her kidneys and pancreas were badly damaged. Her doctors did not have much hope that she would live long. Michelle grew up with type 1 diabetes, hypertension, kidney failure, and infetility. Despite this she has always maintained a positive outlook and never let her medical challenges stop her from doing anything. She is currently a Registered Practical Nurse working in Barrie Ontario, and will need to take time off to receive treatment, and to care for her daughter, (b. 2012). Her family has always known someday she would need a kidney transplant, and that day has come.
When dialysis begins, Michelle must take part in a six week training program so she may have dialysis administered at home. Once this training is complete she can return to return to work and resume a somewhat normal life. Until then, Michelle will have to stop working for several weeks, and does not not have the flexibility to wait for her short term sickness benefits. This treatment is pressing, necessary and very cost prohibitive both directly and indirectly. As such Michelle will need a boost so she may take the required time off work so she may receive the best treatment that her situation can allow.
