Michelle Larkin - Special Olympics

Donation protected
Michelle Larkin  passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on September 11, 2018 from a blood clot in her lungs.  She was 35 years old.  Her family is devastated.  Her parents, Francis and Doris, agreed to donate Michelle's organs to the Washington Regional Transplant Community.   They said, "Michelle would want to do this."

Michelle's parents are both on fixed incomes.  her father, Francis, is a retired stone mason and her mother, Doris, has a medical disability.  Her parents do not have insurance and are unable to afford the funeral expenses for their daughter.  They would like to have a  Celebration of Life gathering for her family, friends, team members and coaches.  They plan to have Michelle cremated so they can bring her home.

Michelle was born with developmental disabilities and a seizure disorder but that did not hold her down.  She competed as a Fauquier County Special Olympics athlete for 25 years on the Track and Field Team, but her favorite sport was bowling.  She was always the first at bowling practice, even before the coaches. Over the years, Michelle earned scores of ribbons, pins, medals and trophies. She had the highest bowling average among the girls at the end of the 2017-2018 bowling season and won bowling female MVP at the sports banquet.

Michelle was strong willed, competitive and a little feisty but a very sweet and kind young lady, who was thoughtful and concerned about others. She worked hard in school, and her 2002 graduation from Liberty High School was one of her proudest moments.

Michelle was also an animal lover. Through the years she had all sorts of pets from cats and dogs to goats and rabbits.  Recently she was raising chickens and enjoyed caring for them,  even scrubbing their feet with a washcloth to keep the eggs clean.  Michelle gathered the eggs each morning and sold them for spending money.

At home, Michelle enjoyed playing bingo with her family and she loved spending time on the laptop.

Michelle's parents are still in shock that she is gone.  No donation is too small and every donation will help towards allowing them to give Michelle the final tribute that she deserves and bring her home.
Thank you.
