Michele and I in this transitional phase in our lives!

As many of you know, my wife Michele suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke on March 16. It was an extremely difficult time for our family. Her prognosis was initially poor, but her progress has been remarkable. At her most recent appointment in August, her neurosurgeon noted she is further along in her recovery than ever expected. This speaks to both the severity of her stroke and her strength throughout this journey.

She is still in the early stages of recovery. Here are a few updates on her current situation:

- She is walking much better and no longer needs a cane, though she continues to experience significant fatigue in her right leg and foot.

- Her speech has improved, and she can hold conversations, though she still experiences occasional challenges due to mild aphasia and apraxia.

- She has limited use of her right arm, but recent improvements in moving her shoulder, elbow, and hand are encouraging. She continues to wear a brace when active or needs to support her arm while resting.

Because of that, she sees an occupational therapist, physical therapist, and speech therapist weekly in scheduled 3-5 appointments. Due to this schedule and trying to balance medical bills/forms, doctor appointments, school with the boys, and other unforeseen circumstances... it was hard to find prospects for full-time work that fit our lifestyle until just recently.

Fortunately, recently, Michele was approved for disability, which is a blessing in this transitional phase of our lives. And as mentioned, I am interviewing with some great possibilities for work that fit with our schedules. Unfortunately, we have nearly a month’s worth of expenses not covered until her disability starts to pay out, and I am hired and begin to start receiving pay. As well as some medical items not covered/items needed for Michele to return to her best form of normalcy after this stroke: rent, car note, one-handed keyboard, ankle brace for walking stability (which will allow her to walk further), and a stroke victim sublux prevention shoulder/elbow brace for her right arm.

All things that we took for granted for so many months of our lives that we just didn’t have to worry about. And friends, I’m ashamed to say that I just don’t have it covered. It’s disappointing because for so many weeks and even months, as a father and provider, I just couldn't see a great plan or vision for us to get back on our feet. Now we have that, but I need a little help to get there if you’re able. After all the love and support we got back in March, I hate to even ask, but trust me, if I had another choice, I wouldn’t. I won't ask for more than I need, and any little bit helps, if you’re able! Thank you and God Bless!
