Michael Salter's Road to Recovery

Jenna Mazeikis, and Roy Salter welcomed their beautiful baby boy Michael Salter in February 2016. Michael was undoubtedly a happy baby from the very beginning, as you can see in all the pictures he is always smiling. Michael was developing and growing like any normal boy does at his age, up until this summer, when Jenna and Roy started to notice he was struggling with his normal motor skills.  Concerned, they took little Michael to get numerous tests done to find out what the sudden cause of this was. It was discovered that Michael has a brain tumor. Michael was immediately sent to the Lurie’s Children Hospital in Chicago, for further prognosis. While everyone was hoping the tumor would be non-malignant, unfortunately we received devastating news on Sunday, 8/12 that an MRI showed it was cancerous, and it had spread into Michael’s spine. Michael at 2 and half years of age, is undergoing surgery to have the tumor removed Monday 8/13, but will have a long battle of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and long hospital stays ahead of him. As you can imagine, this is the worst to experience as a parent.  The family and friends of Michael, Jenna and Roy have created this GoFundMe page to help raise money for Michael’s recovery.  Jenna and Roy have already missed days of work, and will be missing many more throughout this long battle Michael has ahead of him. Any support/donation received is beyond appreciated. We are hopeful the money raised will help ease the pain they are going through, and help them focus on Michael and his recovery, and not the financial hardship.

Since Jenna and Roy have a home in Streamwood, and with Michael staying at the hospital in Chicago, this distance is a huge strain. We are hoping that we can raise enough money to not only cover all the medical bills to come, but also help keep Jenna and Roy as close to Michael as possible. Money donated, will go to warm meals, parking expenses, hotel stays, and household bills since Jenna and Roy are missing work right now.

While all of this is still very shocking, devastating, it is still very new information, family and friends will keep this page updated as soon as we hear more information on Michael’s health, but for now all we can do is try to help this family focus on their baby boy and his long road to recovery, so he can smile and play dinosaurs again!
