Michael's Kidney Cancer Journey

Family and Friends, as many of you know I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in Sept. 2016. I had my left kidney removed along with a 7cm tumor. In Jan. '17 a CT scan revealed the cancer had metastasized(spread) to my lungs, liver and original surgery site. After a biopsy on both my liver and lungs and MANY other tests, I started treatment for my Advanced, Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma(RCC) in July.
The picture I have chosen to share with you is from May, during my Daughter Chelsea's wedding to Matthew. I thank the Lord that my health held together long enough and enabled me to participate in this very special day.
Thank goodness the wedding and our Son Colemen's Graduation from GMU were in May...as I was unable to continue with my full time work starting on June 1st. My plan was to relaunch Velocity SalesForce, but the treatment and it's HORRIBLE side effects left me unable to leave my bed or the house most days. I have not worked, played tennis, golf or been boating in 7 weeks now. For those of you that know me well, I did all that and much more most days!
I filed for disability on Mon. 8/21 as I don't know when I'll be able to return to work, if ever. There is not a cure for RCC, so the targeted therapy treatments and their lovely side effects will continue for the rest of my life!
I'm really good and putting together plans to help other people, but not so good at asking for help myself! The medical bills, treatment($10k per month), inability to work and make an income have drastically changed our life!
Joyce and I will be selling our house, cars, toys, etc. to downsize to an expenditure level that will suit my disability status and income. As many of you know, disability can take months or years to get approved from social security. Until then, I will need to pay my costly cobra payments, deductible on the $10k per month treatment, medical bills, monthly living expenses, etc.
I pray for the day that I can go for a walk, play tennis, golf and WORK once again. Until that time, and until disability is granted from SS I'm going to need some help from my family and friends! I hope I have touched your life in some way along this journey called life!
