Michael is a 33-year (nearly 34) year-old-man who has Autism, Generalized Anxiety and an Intractable Partial Complex Seizure Disorder. It is Michael's anxiety that creates barriers to social settings and increases the potential for more seizures that Scooby will be and has been of great assistance, but it's the seizure activities that we really want to focus on.
On a bad day, Michael can have up to 100 seizures a day, with a daily average of 20 per day. Although many of the seizures are "inconvenient" it's the "drop" seizures he experiences that have caused him bodily injury. Michael has been through a gamut of medications over the past 18 years, some with minimal success and others with serious side effects that led us to the surgical option of a Vagus Nerve Stimulator. This has had an overall good result in reducing the number of daily seizures, but this is where Scooby comes in!
The day that Scooby met Michael, Scooby knew that “Michael” was his person. At eight weeks, Scooby curled up around Michael's feet and leaned up to lick his face. Their friendship has continued to bloom but Scooby's zeal and affection needs a little more instruction to help with identify Michael's anxiety and seizure cues.
Scooby is 6-months old and is at the prime age to start more direct puppy instruction. Michael needs your help to support his puppy's training and instruction. Medications have not been successful, but Scooby has had a positive effect on his health and well-being. Scooby will be taught to attend to Michael when he becomes anxious or starts to have a seizures.
I hope you will consider donating to Scooby's training and Michael's happiness and well-being.
