Michael MacRaes life care

Donation protected
On April 7, 2014 Michael MacRae was in a severe motor vehicle collision near Bonnyville that almost killed him. He was 17 years old. He sustained a severe traumatic brain injury. After surgical intervention at the University of Alberta Hospital where he stayed for six weeks, he spent two months in the Bonnyville hospital. Then he moved to the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital for extensive rehabilitation for another 10 weeks.
Michael is left with epilepsy and seizures that are sometimes uncontrollable. He has aphasia, apraxia,  depression, anxiety, hallucinations and paranoia. He cannot write or spell. Michael has difficulties with cooking, cleaning, meal preparation, laundry and grocery shopping. His injuries are permanent and he will require life-long supportive care and constant supervision . In many ways Michael is like a child in the body of an adult. Michael will  not let anyone other than his father and stepmother watch over him.
Fortunately his medical condition is not so severe that he must be committed to a medical facility full time. However, this has put a great strain on his parents who are forced to substitute as full-time caregivers for their adult son. Michael receives AISH, but his parents are unable to receive any other Government funding including social assistance.

Michael's father and stepmother are unemployed despite trying to find work. Without immediate financial assistance, his parents will be unable to pay to keep a roof over his head and watch over him. Michael will likely be separated from his parents and committed to a full-time medical facility. Michael's father is asking your help to raise $400,000 for his interim medical and living expenses .
