Our wonderful, funny and loving father, Mike Holtkamp has been fighting an infection called Charcot, this makes it difficult for blood to circulate properly. He has been fighting this infection for the past four years, in his left foot. He was diagnosed with Soft Bone Osteomalacia, which causes bone pain fractures in both feet. This lead to numerous surgeries and long recoveries. Mike endured many painful and restless nights, trying to recover, but the infection kept coming back and spreading. Mike is a fighter and has kept fighting through this disease.
In the results to the on-going infections, Tuesday October 24th Mike went into surgery to have his left leg amputated. The infection had spread to above the knee and the doctors had to take action. This has been a rough and emotional devastation, to not only Mike but his family. Mike, a very active man, who loves fishing, softball, indulging in his hobby of woodworking and enjoying his back porch views, has a long journey ahead of him. The recovery can take up to at least a year. He will need physical therapy, medications and counseling. This will be a new lifestyle change for Mike and his wife Jerryl, they will face many unexpected costs associated with his recovery. We are hoping this can relieve any current or future stress on them both; as Jerryl is the sole provider for their family.
We hope to raise whatever we can to help our father make the journey a tiny bit easier. Any donations, meals, prayers and thoughts are appreciated. Many hands will help lighten the load.
