Michael Thorne's Eagle Project

Hi! My name is Michael Thorne, a Life Scout from Troop 22 in Woodland Hills, California, and I am currently raising funds for my Eagle Scout project. The award of Eagle Scout is presented to any Boy Scout who demonstrates exceptional Scout spirit and best follows the Scout Oath, Laws, and other Scout principles. It is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America and is regarded as one of the most respectable youth awards in the country. One requirement to attain the Eagle Scout rank is to plan and carry out a service project to benefit the community.

My service project involves the purchase and renovation of a storage unit into a VEPOD (Volunteer Emergency Point of Distribution) unit to serve the community of Lake Manor, California and the surrounding Chatsworth area. The purpose of this VEPOD unit is to provide emergency water, food, blankets, and other supplies to the residents of Lake Manor in the case of a catastrophic natural disaster such as a fire and/or earthquake.

The cost of $1,650 that I am fundraising will directly contribute to purchase items necessary for my project. It includes, but is not limited to:
-Shelving
-Lighting
-Ventilation
-Emergency supplies such as food, water, etc.
-Power units
-Tools

In addition, any donations that I do not use or are left over will directly benefit the West Valley Food Pantry, which supplies food for the homeless and needy of the West San Fernando Valley
