Michael Sawsak Medical Fund

Our 27-year-old son, Michael Sawsak, was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer due to a combination of alcoholism and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a hereditary condition. Less than 1/3 of his liver is currently functioning and the only thing that will save him is a liver transplant. He has been in and out of the hospital and physical therapy rehabs for several months now. He continues to fight this battle in the hopes of being placed on the liver transplant list. The doctors are deciding whether to start cancer treatment in the meantime. As you can imagine, the medical costs are adding up. And if he gets on the transplant list, the average cost of a transplant is around $200,000 out of pocket. Michael is a shining light in our family and means the world to all his family and friends. We want to do everything in our power to save his life and help him continue to fight this disease and the cancer.
