Michael Provine Memorial Fund

Donation protected

In the late evening hours of December 2, 2017, Michael Provine, beloved husband to Alysin, and friend to hundreds, died unexpectedly following complications from cancer surgery. If Alysin is comfortable sharing any more about what happened once she knows more about it we'll certainly share it with you all in a future update.

At the time of Mike's death, Aly was trying to finish up a nursing degree and Mike was on the tail end of a long battle with a Workman's Compensation claim that would have placed him on permanent disability. He seemed to be on the mend from the health issues stemming from his former career, and the cancer scare, and this turn of events has everyone a little in shock, especially Alysin, who was looking forward to getting Mike back on his feet and moving their little family - him, her mom, and her aunt - back here to California, where they would be among friends and opportunities.

We're pretty sure we speak for everyone when we say that worrying about the bills that a death in the family creates is about the last thing we want Aly doing right now. And we're also pretty sure we speak for everyone who knew Mike and Alysin when we say that while we would have been overjoyed to have them both back here in LA next year, we're no longer willing to wait, and we would really rather have her here, among her friends, and able to heal among people who love her.

Your donation to the Michael Provine Memorial Fund will be used to help Alysin in two critical ways:

First, it will be used to defray the end-of-life costs associated with Mike's death, so the bills don't keep her up at night. Of note, Mike wanted his body donated to scientific research, preferably at USC, and given the distance, there may be some out-of-pocket costs associated with making sure his request is carried out.
Any remaining funds will be used to get Alysin and her mother and aunt out of Kentucky and back to California, among people who love and care for them.

This is, frankly, a terrible, awful moment and we are all wrecked that this is happening when we are all so far away. We hope that this project helps everyone who loved Mike feel a little less powerless knowing we can at least rally around her in a way that truly helps her, and help us bring her back to us.
