Michael J Hoeft Scholarship Fund

In 2009 my family lost a very close friend of ours, Michael Hoeft. Michael died tragically in a car accident on Jan. 4. He was only 19 years old and had been attending Moorehead State University. This upcoming year will mark the 10th anniversary of his death, but I, along with his family, friends and community would prefer to celebrate his life and not the tragedy of losing him.
Michael was one of my brothers best friends and I was fortunate to get to spend the early years of my life with him. He was always smiling, laughing, making jokes, and was a great person to be around.
Michael lived his life to the fullest. He was a multi-sport athlete at Simley High School where he participated in soccer, baseball, hockey, football, basketball, track, and wrestling. He was also active within the community and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, and snowboarding. He was always helping others and trying to leave everyone he met with a smile.
Shortly after Michael's death, a scholarship fund was set up that provided scholarships to Simley High School Students in his name from 2010-2014. Those funds have run out and for my National Honor Society senior project, I would like re-establish the scholarship fund in his name to benefit students for many years to come.
This is where I need your help. Please consider making a donation to our fund and making a difference in a young adults life as they are moving into the next chapter of their lives going off to college. In addition to this GoFundMe Project, I am also organizing several other fundraising events in the community. My goal is to raise $10,000, which will be enough to bring the scholarship back for another 20 years.
The money raised here will be sent to the Inver Grove Heights B.E.S.T. Foundation to re-establish the scholarship in Michael's name. This will provide an annual scholarship of $500 to students who make people smile, give back to the community, and demonstrate leadership qualities through their daily actions and words - just as Michael did.
