Michael Goullee’s fight against cancer

Donation protected
This page is dedicated to support Michael Goullee’s fight against cancer that he’s been battling since the beginning of 2019, organized by his fiancé , Citra Ayu Wardani (under her brother’s account who lives in Australia, because neither Citra’s nor Mike’s country is Gofundme’s supported country).

As Mike’s fiancé , I was never prepared to write this letter, moreover to see my other half going in-and-out the surgery room, undergoing painful medication for months, and having the re-occurrence of the cancer cells in his body for the third time since he was diagnosed in early 2019. What we thought we have cured or in the process of curing comes back, and in each time, it’s trying to kick us harsher than before and to a point where I had to hear Mike asked his doctor, “So how long do I have now?” five days ago, and the answer was a nightmare.

Since November 2019, it has been a roller coaster ride for us as the cancer has metastisized to his brain. Mike’s condition has been up and down since then, we literally didn't know what would happen next week and month due to the nature of the disease that often plays a trick on you and gives you false hopes. On May 19th 2020, Mike’s MRI result has showed the re-occurrence of his cancer in his brain and his doctor concluded that the cancer is chemo-resistant and incurable and Mike only has 6 months-1 year more to live.

The disease is indeed stubborn, but so are Mike’s fiancé , his beloved family and Mike himself. Despite the verdict, we’ll keep our fight for Mike as we believe there are still other ways we haven't tried and we can try. We’ve seen and met people who survived such verdict and we don’t see any reasons why we can’t be one of them. Hence we’re trying to bring in alternative medication into our efforts to help with the medical one. After lots of research, calls, and discussion, we agreed to start an Hyperbaric Oxygen Theraphy and restrictive diet plan at the Hummingbird Health Center in Cape Town, South Africa, whose forte is cancer treatment. We have started the treatment on 25th May 2020 and we’re also still looking for other information/ alternative medications that might help.

It’s not an easy journey but we believe that the energy that made the body keeps the body. We accept the diagnosis but will not let the prognosis bring us down. Mike is a fighter and he won’t have to fight this alone. Mike is a good partner, son, brother, cousin, friend, colleague, pilot who are loved by many people. And in a time like this, feeling the loves of other people helps a lot to keep him going through the hardship.

Mike has big dreams, sometimes crazy, but that makes him always supportive of other people’s dreams. Though he is a hardworking person, he never competes with other, never jealous of other people’s success, he’s happy seeing other people happy. When he said “thank you”, he really means it, not just for politeness, he really sees that person in the eyes and smiles, no matter who the person is. He’s the person whom his colleagues always contact whenever they’re around because he’s a likeable and social person. He always improves his self, trying new things, and he inspires others to do so.

The donations collected through this campaign will be used to help for:

1) The alternative medications which are more likely not covered by the health insurance. For now, we have started with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Cape Town. Each session typically costs USD 150 and patients might need more than 20-40 sessions/ depends on his needs. This doesn’t include consultation fee, supplements and conducting necessary tests to monitor his condition. Also we’re still looking for other information regarding alternative medications that we should try/ can help.

2) Accommodation and transportation during the treatment. Mike and his family have to stay in and rent some accommodation in Cape Town for as long as they need it.

3) Getting his fiancé in Indonesia to South Africa to be with Mike as soon as the borders already open (we have applied for compassionate visa and still waiting for answers). This is such a frustrating time for both Mike and me to be apart.

4) Backup for Mike’s insurance which will expire on September 21st, 2020 due to the change of the insurance company’s policy that no longer covers people from outside the country (It’s from England). We have started with other insurance, but they will only start covering him after 1 year, which means Mike will have 7 months of not having health insurance after 21st September, 2020. So far the cost for Mike’s treatment (6 surgeries, 2 rounds of chemo, radiations, ICU, hospital, etc) has been more than USD 1,500,000 . Each surgery may cost around USD 180,000 - 300,000 .

The beneficiary of the campaign will be Michael Goullee himself, his family and his partner who are heavily affected by this event, physically, emotionally and financially.

Please keep Mike in your prayer, every help counts.
