I'm Michael Cretton, 28 years young, live in Appleton WI. Have been a pretty healthy guy for most of my life. Recently I made some decisions to further better my health( gave up caffeine, stopped using tobacco products.) After a month of not smoking I was expirencing tightness in my chest and difficulty catching my breath. After a week of putting up with it and just blaming it on no longer being a tobacco user, I scheduled an appointment at the thedacare quick clinic. Once I arrived I got a little scared, I haven't been to a doctors office since I was about 17 years old. When they checked my blood pressure it was abnormally high, I figured it was due to nerves. So they listened to my lungs and heart. Immediately they decided to do an EKG to get a read out of my heart rhythm, which come to find out was irregular and going very fast. I was informed that I needed to take an ambulance ride to the emergency room because I was going in and out of atrial fibrillation which for those of you who dont know is very dangerous. Was questioned over and over again about allergies and my medical history, which I didn't have since this was my first visit in over 10 years. The people in the ER kept asking me if I could feel what my heart was doing and still now unless I'm touching my chest I dont noticed the irregularities that are happening. I notice it all in my breathing. They took a bunch of blood and did all the labs they needed to do, checking for blood clots and what not. They gave me a beta blocker to try and slow everything down in hopes that, that would be their cure-all. The first beta blocker did not work so they tried another one. Once my heart rate and blood pressure normalized they moved me up to the cardiology department of the hospital to keep an eye on me. Shortly after getting up there they had noticed my rhythm was not doing what it should be. There was a lot of extra beats where there shouldn't be. For no reason at all. I would get up to go to the bathroom or even change the channel on the tv and it would start going crazy. Eventually they put me on an IV form of the drug cardizem to get my system to chill out. After two days of being observed, poked, and having my blood taken for extra labs. I had an echocardiogram done, they still couldn't pin point the area or why it was happening. I kept telling them I wanted to go home. I wanted to get back to work. So they agreed to release me with a diagnosis of atrial tachycardia and a prescription for cardizem. They scheduled me an appointment to have my breathing checked out. Also had a date set to wear a holter monitor for 48 hours. Turns out I do have asthma, so now I'm using two different types of inhalers to treat that. They are still trying to find the right balance with the inhalers as I can't use them as a rescue inhaler due to what the stimulants do to my heart( make it beat even faster.) On March 19th I had my follow up with my cardiologist to go over the results of my 48 hour monitor. They did two more EKGs ( at this point I think I have had almost 20.) My heart is still doing the same thing it was in the ER two weeks prior. I have been given two options the first is to add in another drug and to continue the pill and inhaler combo for the rest of my life or I have go for something that is hopefully a little more permanent. Heart surgery. The pill and inhalers will only suppress the problem not actually solve it. I have to do a couple of stress tests and those are very expensive according to the team at the cardiovascular center. I do not have health insurance and have been denied twice now. The medical bills are already rolling in. I do have 75% coverage through the Caring Hearts program at the hospital thankfully. However that is not covering any of the prescription drugs I need,  and will still leave me with a very large bill at the end of my surgery which will be sometime in May. My hopes for this gofundme is to make all of this as painless as possible. Both physically and financially. I have already set up payment plans with thedacare to take care of the bills that have already arrived. If you know me, you know I'm almost always the one to help other people never the one asking for help. So its taken a lot for me to swallow my pride and ask for help. I'm 28 years old and scared for many reasons.  Surgery, my ability to perform at work and in day to day life are things I've never had to worry about before. I know things will be rough for a while and I'm ready.
