HELP MIAH BUY A DEXCOM!

Hello everyone!

Miah is 6 years old and everyone who knows her adores her. Her smile lights up any room when she walks in! Miah is independent, intelligent, funny, kind, mature, adventurous-- I can go on forever telling you about her. But no matter how amazing Miah is, a child should not have to deal with a disease that requires 24 hr attention. On Friday, July 17th  Miah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

They don’t call it a silent disease for nothing. Like most of you reading this, I didn’t know much about what having Diabetes meant.Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are destroyed by the body’s immune system. Although there is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes there are several ways to manage it. A Type 1 Diabetic is dependent on injected or pumped insulin to survive every day. The Type 1 Diabetic also has to check their sugar level consistently throughout the day by pricking the finger and checking blood to make sure the sugar is in range. It is vital for a Type 1 Diabetic to maintain sugar levels in range to live a long healthy life. If the diabetes is not properly managed the diabetic can suffer health complications such as loss of vision, kidney failure, damaged nerves, amputation, and heart complications to name just a few. 

However, having a Dexcom, a small tool that attaches to the body to monitor blood sugar levels, makes it a bit easier to manage Type 1 Diabetes.
