Mia's Healing Journey

Donation protected
My name is Carmen Carrillo, longtime friend of Alicia Soto and her family for over 33 years.

I have decided to start this page to help Mia and her family with whatever we can give in hopes that we can help with minimal expenses such as parking, meals or any specific needs for Mia as this journey has been one like no other.

Here is a brief statement of what has been happening with our Precious Mia…

Mia, who is currently 15 years old, was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis two and a half years ago. The doctors have tried every possible medication to control her symptoms but unfortunately that did not work.

Early in 2017 she had 2 blood transfusions due to severe bleeding and her condition throughout the year was a bit unbalanced as she was always sick, weak and tired. Things for her only got worse and in November 2017 after having a colonoscopy and endoscopy the Doctors recommended that she have the necessary surgery to have her large intestine removed. One of the hardest decisions that her mother had to make but her prognosis seemed fairly acceptable and she was looking forward to her recovery & healing process.

Alicia was told that the surgery would be 3-4 hours long and that she would be out of hospital in 5 days. The surgery took place and when they removed Mia’s colon some of her own feces went into her abdominal cavity which opened the door to infections.  The medical professionals told her that she would be ok and that they would keep her on antibiotics for 7 days. Unfortunately, that was not the case as she caught a bad infection and started running fevers and was vomiting severely so she had to go back into surgery so they can drain an abscess that she had. The catheter was left for 5 days and she continued to have fever and vomiting. Another CT scan was performed and at that time they realized that when the catheter was inserted they accidently tore her intestine and it was leaking.  At this time she was rushed back into surgery to try and correct this terrible mistake and to help with the infection in her stomach. It was referred as “If a bomb went off in her stomach.”  She also developed a blood clot in her liver and Vasculitis which is another auto immune diseases.

Mia has been extremely sick with on and off fever and vomiting and had an NG Tube put in her nose numerous times. Last week she developed a partial obstruction in her duodenum and has also developed 3 Fistulas. Last Friday (1/19/18) she had an Endoscopy and they found 2 small ulcers and a biopsy was done.  Now they are waiting for the results as they are suspecting that she may now have Crohn's Disease.

With this being said, please continue to pray for Mia so that she can heal properly and that her future be one that is truly blessed by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you in advance and God Bless You All
