Mia is a 28-year old living in their hometown of New Orleans, LA. They have envisioned top surgery for years. It is time for Mia to take this essential next step in their life. Mia's mother has come fully on board and is very supportive of this need; Mia, themself, has gotten over their own fears and feels so ready "to become the person that they truly are." All that's stopping them is the money (or lack thereof).
Mia has a large extended family, and lives in a (beautiful) city where it's easy to run into people they know. Though their parents are supportive, many others are ignorant to Mia's needs and sometimes act accordingly. Therefore, Mia has asked me to lead this campaign so as to ensure that their privacy is maintained when it comes to their community.
I am committed to getting this fundraiser to its goal, all while maintaining collaboration with Mia. I have already laid a practice of checking in with Mia consistently, and will be doing so throughout this entire campaign. Nothing happens without Mia's consent. Mia is also the person with the keys to the GoFundMe, and so all the funds are being sent to them directly.
We are raising USD$13,000 for the top surgery and recovery. The cost of the surgery is $12k; hospital/administrative fees can be a factor, as well; the rest of that portion of the funds will be used for healing (which often takes 3 weeks, but in some cases can take up to 6 months) and also laser treatments after surgery. Considering Mia is a big-breasted person, we want to ensure that they have enough support post-surgery for healing.
The final USD$550.00 is a standard fee to GoFundMe for hosting this fundraiser on their site.
