<div>Acudimos a ustedes en uno de los momentos más duros que hemos vivido como familia. Nuestra madre está actualmente en estado crítico en la UCI en Venezuela, tras haber sido operada de emergencia debido a una obstrucción intestinal severa.

<div>Estuvo más de 11 días vomitando y descompensada, mientras los médicos inicialmente pensaban que era una virosis. Al no mejorar, un internista indicó que podía tratarse de una úlcera péptica y pseudo obstrucción, pero los síntomas continuaron. Buscamos una segunda opinión médica y, tras varios exámenes, descubrieron que tenía múltiples obstrucciones intestinales, probablemente causadas por una cirugía que tuvo hace más de 15 años.

<div>Para entonces, ya estaba extremadamente débil y desnutrida, porque su cuerpo no podía absorber nutrientes. Fue ingresada de urgencia en el hospital El Llanito, donde la operaron y ahora permanece en cuidados intensivos, en estado delicado. A esto se suma que padece artritis reumatoide crónica, derivada de una infección por chikungunya, lo que complica aún más su recuperación.

<div>Los médicos hacen lo posible, pero nosotros, como familia, somos quienes debemos conseguir y costear todos los insumos, exámenes y medicamentos, que además suelen pedirse con carácter urgente. Hemos agotado nuestros ahorros y ya no podemos cubrir ni lo básico.

<div>We are reaching out during one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced. Our beloved mother is currently in critical condition in the ICU in Venezuela, after undergoing emergency surgery due to a severe intestinal obstruction.

<div>For over 11 days, she was vomiting and deteriorating, while doctors initially suspected a viral infection. As her condition worsened, an internist suggested a possible peptic ulcer and pseudo-obstruction, but her symptoms persisted. A second medical opinion and further tests finally revealed multiple intestinal blockages, which had likely been developing for years — possibly a complication from a surgery she had over 15 years ago.

<div>By that point, she was already extremely weak and malnourished, as her body couldn’t absorb nutrients. She was admitted urgently to El Llanito Hospital, where she underwent surgery and remains in the ICU, in a delicate state. To complicate things further, she also suffers from chronic rheumatoid arthritis, a condition triggered by a past chikungunya infection.

<div>The doctors are doing their best, but we, as a family, are responsible for purchasing all medical supplies, lab tests, and medications, which are extremely costly and often urgent. We’ve exhausted our savings and are struggling to cover even the most basic medical needs.
