Marc Kawwas is a thirteen-year-old pianist from Bethlehem/Palestine, who has successfully auditioned and been offered a place at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester/United Kingdom.

Born in Bethlehem in 2006, young Marc has been playing the piano since he was six and recently gained his grade 7 with a 99% average. He has performed many piano recitals and concerts in Palestine and won many music competitions.

He was identified by the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Palestine as an exceptional talent. Jay Crossland, Academic Director at ESNCM, explains, “Marc was the winner of our annual concerto competition this year, a competition in two rounds, where the final round was in front of a live audience and the prize was a performance with the Conservatory Orchestra. Marc showed extraordinary professionalism at all stages…. He is an enthusiastic music lover, practicing, composing and performing. With this attitude and work ethic at this age, and with the right training, I believe Marc has the potential to go far as a pianist and musician.”

In August 2019, Marc attended Chetham's International Summer School & Festival for Pianists. During his time at the summer school, a special audition was arranged and Marc was successful in gaining an offer of a place to study at Chetham’s School of Music.

Chetham’s School of Music is one of the best music schools in the World which is located in Manchester and it offers a GCSE and A Levels beside the music education. Marc was offered a place at Chetham’s into Year 10 to start September 2020 with piano as first study. In September 2020, Marc will be 14 years old, and he needs to study 4 years at Chetham’s to get his A Levels and his music education. The tuition and boarding fees of the school are £35,697 per year which will be around £143,000 for the 4 years.

We are seeking to fundraise this amount through generous donations by individuals. Any donation, no matter its size, will be deeply appreciated and will help Marc fulfill his dream and serve his country in the future. Marc says, “Until now, my love and passion for the piano has only gone further and further. I dream to become a great Palestinian pianist, composer and conductor.”
