In South Africa, a quarter of the population doesn’t have the financial means to buy
food, that is roughly 14.5 million people.

An organization that has been working day and night to ensure that individuals,
especially children, have access to daily meals is StellCARE.

StellCARE, (previously Child Welfare Stellenbosch), is a registered independent
charitable organisation in South Africa. Their mission is to promote, protect and
enhance the safety, well-being and healthy development of children and families who live in poverty-stricken areas. StellCARE was founded in 1916 and is 104 years old as of 2020.

StellCARE is seeing first-hand the devastating effects that COVID-19 has had on impoverished communities (living in informal settlements). They have identified hunger and starvation to be the greatest threat that these individuals have been facing since the start of the nationwide lockdown on the 26th of March 2020.

Currently, StellCARE is feeding 5361 people per day with hot food and they are
aiming to feed 40 000 per day 7 days a week. These warm meals will assist the
most vulnerable and hungry individuals. StellCARE is operating in the communities that have been hit the hardest by the economic and social repercussions of South Africa’s National Lockdown.

Further, StellCARE distribute 1851 food parcels to individual families and families with who host children in need of a temporal place of safety. They also provide hampers for mothers which includes baby milk and nappies.

In order to achieve this, we need help and donations! As a group of young students, from South Africa and Belgium, our aim is to raise money in collaboration with StellCARE to feed as many people as possible.

What makes your donation so IMPORTANT?

Your proceeds will be going towards the purchasing of aluminium pots, gas plate stoves, gas (fuel), non-perishable foods and fresh vegetables for warm meals. StellCARE’s need for these goods will enable them to sustainably provide warm meals for those who need it, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. StellCARE’s long term goal is to decrease their food parcel handouts and encourage the employable to become economically active, rather than relying only on the food parcels.

R350 / €18.22: A food parcel that feeds a family of 4 for 2 weeks!
R6 / €0.31: A hot plate of food for one person
OR
R60 / €3.2 to feed one person for 10 days
