Barefoot Farmer's Barn & Intern House Rebuild

Jeff Poppen’s Long Hungry Creek Farm is one of the oldest and largest organic farms in TN. Recently our barn burned down with all of our seed garlic, square bales of hay, tools, and a tractor in it. The barn did not have electricity and the battery was not connected to the tractor, so we do not know how the fire started. We are beyond grateful no one was hurt and no animals were inside.

This barn served many purposes. It was a storage space for vegetables, a place to house hay, and often a place for interns and visitors to reside. In the fire we lost 8 bushels of seed garlic that Jeff has been growing since 1978, as well as a few hundred bails of hay. There was an old tractor in there, along with tools, fencing supplies, and other various items we won’t know are missing until we need them. 


We need to rebuild before the next growing season begins. 



This project will benefit our farm, and students eager to learn about farming and growing food from one of the most trusted and respected leaders in the agricultural movement, Jeff Poppen, the Barefoot Farmer . 



It is our greatest joy to grow food for our community in a manner that is sustainable and regenerative to the land. We want to continue teaching others how to do the same. Appropriate storage space and housing for our interns is critical for us to continue practicing and teaching sustainable agriculture. 

We are eternally grateful for all the people who have helped our farm get where it is today, and appreciate all support that is shown throughout this fundraising campaign.
