On the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 22 — 20-year-old Rebecca Claire was struck by a Metro Bus while crossing Broad Branch Road with a Lafayette Pre-K student. Members of the Lafayette community responded in heroic fashion to the terrifying incident. But now “Becca Claire” faces financial challenges while she recovers. Becca Claire is a sophomore at
Marymount in the School of Business studying Marketing & Finance.
Her most critical out-of-pocket expenses for the next several months include medical and pharmaceutical co-pays, groceries and meals, and transportation to and from numerous medical appointments until she is physically cleared to drive (and feels emotionally ready, too.) Her parents are working together to help cover her rent.
Becca Claire is used to babysitting/nannying up to 40 hours per week in the summer and 20-25 during the school year, and uses that money to help cover rent, meals, clothing and transportation, as well as school books/supplies. Her mother took out additional loans for the fall semester to help cover more of Becca Claire’s living expenses, but now that she has been told to take the semester off to recover, she loses that funding.
Her mother lives/works several hours away and expects to travel back-and-forth to the DC area to help Becca Claire make a full recovery. At present, Becca Claire needs continued assistance with basic daily skills, such as bathing, dressing, food prep and shopping, as well as transportation to and from appointments.
Becca Claire is a big fan of Grubhub and Caviar food delivery services, and gift certificates to either would be extremely helpful for when her Mom is not in town to help purchase and prepare food.
