New Wheelchair Van for my son Paul

Donation protected
My son Paul has a neuro muscular disease called Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT for short). In many cases this only affects the extremeties and with braces and other means of assistance a person with CMT can function rather normally but a bit restricted.

In Paul's case it also affected his diaphram and he is now a quadreplegic and needs a vent to help him breathe. He has just enough motion that enables him to operate his electric wheelchair.

He has his own apartment, and has 24/7 nursing assistance. He has graduated from college and is very bright and active with social activites, reading,  and online activites.

His current wheelchair van which was purchased for him by his grandfather (a 2002 Ford 250) is in need of replacement in the near future. As we have kept up with the maintenance of things like new shocks, springs, brakes, wheelchair restraint straps and repairs to the Braun Lift, it is time to realize that replacement is necessary.

Wheelchair vans vary in size and capacity and lift type .

Paul weights about 125 pounds but his electric wheelchair weighs a whopping 300+ pounds. So we are looking to buy aheavy duty van, with a pull out ramp in place of an electric lift.

As you may have guessed a new van can run in the neighborhood of $45k to $80K.

So I have started this effort to raise the needed funds ato purchase a new wheelchair van for Paul.
