Help Mevorah Florentín School for the Blind
Donation protected
Friends and family, we're asking for your help to keep the doors open for our blind children in Venezuela. Please consider helping us with your donation, or help spread the word to others!
Founded in 1936, Mevorah Florentín School for the Blind has educated and provided a framework to strive towards independence and resiliency for many visually-impaired children for over 84 years in Caracas, Venezuela.
This year has been particularly hard for the school due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deteriorating economic situation in Venezuela, and a recent break-in that involved the loss of all of the school's computers. The theft has added an enormous strain in the school's ability to educate our children in an increasingly tech-oriented society. When fully staffed, the school employs 30 full-time teachers, but today this number is halved to only 14 teachers and 4 staff members.
Our fundraiser will allow the school to recoup some of the material losses, fix a leaking roof, and to restock essential school supplies. In addition, we are providing a $100 Holiday bonus for staff members to encourage retention.
A brief itemized breakdown includes the following:
-Door Locks: $330
-Printer: $320
-Braille Printer: $2900
-Clearview Optelec Magnifier: $1500
-Ten (10) Desktop Computers: $6700
-Assorted IT Equipment: $1800
-School Supplies: $5100
-Bus Repair: $650
-Holiday Bonuses for 18 School Staff: $1800
-Building Infrastructure & Roof: $6600
Any help is appreciated, no matter how small. For reference, the average monthly salary in Venezuela can be roughly USD $3-4 a month, so even a $5 donation will go far to help us.
