Clean water for Mayan community

The Lacandon Maya community of Metzabok has been denied access to the well water that they have relied upon for years. To insure a reliable clean source of water funds raised will be used to drill a well and install potable water infrastructure for the community of 180 indigenous Maya.
Members of the Mensäbak Archeological Project had the privilege of working with the people of Metzabok since 1994 and the community will be grateful for your help in this time of crisis and great need. Access to clean water is vital, especially for the young children and mothers of the community.
Since being cut off from their water supply many community members are forced to drink lake water and are getting parasites and other illnesses. Some people are buying bottled drinking water coming from the town of Palenque, but not everyone can. They plan on starting the drilling as soon as possible since they're desperate for clean water. Drilling is the choice they made after considering other options.
The drilling cost depends on the depth of the aquifer, which may be up to 60 meters. The drilling is about 100 dollars per meter for a total of about $6000 USD. A submersible water pump and potable water distribution may cost up to $4000 USD.
Members of the Mensäbak Archeological Project will volunteer to help oversee the drilling work, water distribution network and help the community as they work to guarantee clean water to all members of the community.
Your assistance in covering the costs of drilling the water well and materials to distribute water to the community is urgently needed. Many in the community cannot afford bottled water and the risks of using surface water are too high especially for the children and expectant mothers.
