Do The Right Thing

October 11th, 2017 started off as any other wednesday. Waking up to a bright pink sky and a day full of promises. The morning routine on my block is very similar for most of us. Many of us are raising school aged children. We live in a fairly nice area of Staten Island. All of us hardworking, kind, polite and neighborly. We look out for one another.
How naive I felt this morning when we woke up to quite possibly the most heinous act we’ve witnessed together as neighbors. Something that catapulted us back decades of progress. Our neighbor, who’s name he’s asked me to keep private, was victim of a hate crime. At some point during the night (between 10:45pm and 6:45am) someone decided to tell him how THEY felt about him living on OUR block. I emphasize THEY because it clearly does not reflect the way we feel about him or his family. He’s been a renter on our block for over a year. He’s a stand up guy who takes care of his family. This hard working father of 4 (who ages range from 3 months to 16 years old) is involved and dedicated to his family. He had to borrow someone else’s car this morning to avoid having to explain to his 9 year old what happened. We are all at a loss for words.
The vandal scratched his hatred all over his vehicle. From bumper to bumper. The insurance will cover the repair but Geico has a $1,000 deductible. This expense is not only unexpected but it shouldn’t be his responsibility. I’m asking for monetary help in any way you can. No donation is too small. There has to be more good than evil in this world. Let’s reatore his faith in humanity, together!

Disclaimer : at the birth of this campaign the funds were being collected to offset the cost of the insurance deductible for my neighbor. Very early in the development we were blessed with the gift of generousity from JoJo’s Auto Parts (which I immediately stated in my first update) and the car is currently being fixed at no cost. In an attempt to raise my neighbors spirits and help get him through this dark time, the funds were still being collected for  vacation fund. Again, I meant only to help and do the right thing and with your unwavering support we are able exceed our goal.
GoFundMe is requiring I give you all the option to ask for a refund here :::
Because the original destination changed they want you to not feel taken advantage of. If any one of you felt bamboozled in any way, I’m truly sorry. There was zero fraud on my end. Truly just wanted to help. Thank you again for your continued support. In a perfect world none of this would have been necessary. Peace and love. - AS

*****The police were here all morning collecting fingerprints and taking photos. There is no video evidence of the crime and no known witnesses. We are hoping for the person to be held responsible through the 4 decent prints they retrieved off the vehicle.****
