As some of our friends and family know, each July the past three years has found little brother Tucker and me on mission trips into Baja Mexico swinging hammers and building houses for some of the poorest of the poor.
Typically, this would be the week I fire off a funny pic and a quick post looking back at a week of grit, good times, and God's grace.
This year, due to scheduling issues, we're planning our trip for September instead, BUT... we're going to up the ante a bit by attempting an unprecedented TWO mission objectives. Instead of just building a house, this time we're going to buy a truck and drive it from Denver to Baja Mexico to fulfill the text request pasted below from my good friend and personal hero Karl Hus. Karl, by the way, upon becoming an empty nester this year, sold or stored all his earthly possessions in California and moved himself and his wife to Vicente Guerrero, Baja to serve The Lord's ministry full time in Mexico
Monte. I have a ministry need. I'm trying to raise funds for a used Ford F-150. I'm looking at a 4X4 because of the roads and 4 door with AC for the ability to carry people. The truck I'm looking at is between $12-14,000 with 100,000 miles. I need to purchase this before winter. Can you help us? I'm not expecting you to do the whole amount (unless the Lord speaks to you). However every bit counts. Thanks for your support. Karl
My immediate thought upon receiving this text? Tucker, Shane, and I roadtripping a truck from Denver into old Mexico is going to be hilarious. Consider it done.
The point of this rambling post? Regardless, we're going to do it. But, if anyone has a truck getting long in the tooth which could be repurposed as a vehicle of The Lord that they would sell at a reasonable price (or donate, tax deductibly of course), pls let me know. Also, Dad has already offered to donate 500 bucks and gas money to the cause if he gets to ride along. If anyone else would like to contribute to our pilgrimage, please let me know as we'd like to get as solid of a vehicle as we possibly can to replace Karl's worn out truck (see attached photo of said worn out truck)
