Volunteer South Africa Experience

Imagine a crowded shanty-town where hundreds of thousands are living in the deepest poverty with scarce resources in small makeshift tin shacks. There are overflowing public toilets and open sewers where young children live, attend school, and play. Orphanages are filled with children that have lost their parents to AIDS. It is a city where there are limited social services and where many people live seeking the basic necessities of life. 

What I have described for you are the tough urban areas of South Africa, where I will be volunteering as an Ignacio Volunteer with Loyola University New Orleans. I am one of the twelve students who will be working with the impoverished people of South Africa for 15 days during my summer break. 

In all of our work, we will be doing real acts of mercy--feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, caring for the sick, and working with those disadvantaged men, women and children who are truly in need. How can you help? I am responsible for raising $1800 to cover the cost of transportation, room and board, and supplies. I ask that you sponsor me by donating a financial contribution to help me volunteer my time and energy to work with those that have less. "Some give by going and some go by giving."
