Mermaid Atlantic - Hants & IOW Wildlife Trust

Three friends from the Isle of Wight, all alike in ambition, are undertaking the ultimate ocean encounter in 2023. The mission is two-fold, firstly to communicate the detrimental effect of waste items on the ocean, polluting the water, damaging ecosystems and threatening marine life. The second is to raise awareness of the power of seagrass and the role it plays in combating the climate crisis as well as providing habitats to marine life.

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust are the only charity dedicated solely to protecting and conserving local wildlife in the two counties for everyone to enjoy. They manage 50 nature reserves, work with other landowners to improve their land for wildlife and inspire people through wildlife experiences and education activities. They work tirelessly to ensure that future generations living in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will be able to enjoy the delight and sense of wellbeing that nature offers us.

The money you donate to HIWWT will help them to protect and restore the seagrass beds in the Solent. Seagrass has the power to sequester carbon 35 times faster than the rainforests. However, its survival is threatened by human intervention, including mooring anchors, buoys and pollution, to name a few.

The Mermaid Atlantic Crew thank you for your support, and are grateful for anything you can spare.
