Mercy’s Eye Surgery: Save Mercy’s Eye!
Help save Mercy’s eye! Surgery is next Tuesday, 12/15/2020!
Mercy is a 7 year old American Staffordshire mix who has severe chronic allergies which affect her eyes, skin, and digestion, and I am her person, Samantha R.
Mercy was rescued with two of her litter mates after being abandoned in a box under a bridge at 6 or so weeks old, and she’s been my best little friend ever since. This is the first photo I saw of my baby girl. 
Mercy’s severe allergy issues have caused her to develop chronic dry eye in both eyes and this led to a massive ulcer in her right eye (pic below, her eyes are supposed to be brown). This thing is huge and gaping, it barrels through the eye to the cornea according to the ophthalmologist we saw yesterday (12/8), Dr. Gwin of the Animal Eye Clinic in OKC. Without surgery, the ulcer will rupture and Mercy will lose her eye.
Surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday (12/15) and Mercy will be getting a biosis graft conjunctival flap and temp tarr. The estimated cost is $2,800 not including after care medications which boost it to roughly $3,000. But the ophthalmologist said follow up and recovery will take months and require more funds. We also just had pre-surgery bloodwork added to the list! ($130)
The average cost of Mercy’s regular monthly medications (due to allergies) is $140.00 and she regularly has additional needs which crop up and result in more costs. This average monthly cost will be going up too since she needs more intense medications (the pre surgery medications we just got were $316.00). She’s my baby girl so we make it work and I do everything in my power to make sure she is comfortable and healthy. But surgery is a whole different game and Mercy and I appreciate any assistance you can offer.

Any funds beyond the surgery and immediate after care will be used for continued eye care as Merc has dry eye, in both eyes, for life and I want to prevent this from occurring again. Thank you for reading about Mercy! We appreciate any contribution and all the good energy you can send our way! 
Fun fact: Mercy was named after I had just read the following verse, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They arenew every morning: great is your faithfulness.” Because Merc and I came into each other’s lives when we needed each other and I have been so grateful for her every day since. She is always there to nuzzle me and cuddle when I am sad, and I will always be here for her too.
