Help Gene Mercer raise two boys

Donation protected
In July of 2014 Gene, Jessica, and Kevin had one of the most important days of their lives when little Jackson Mercer was born. It was a high point as well as a new beginning representing the commencement of their family together. They were both so excited, but not as much as Kevin was to have a little baby brother. Everything was finally coming together; the complete family unit that they all wanted so badly was finally in place. Gene and Jessica both worked so hard these last few years to make this dream a reality, a family.

Unfortunately, on Wednesday August 5th, 2015, 2 weeks after Jackson's first birthday celebration, Jessica lost her battle with a sickness (PPD), which she had been fighting for the past year. She leaves behind a beautiful 1 year old baby, and a teenager she had grown so close to.

Now, between all of the family and friends, we want to provide a future for these boys, one of whom will only know his mother through stories and pictures. This is the future that Jess would have wanted. She was working hard to be a full time mother while working full time, as Gene was also working hard full time as a union worker to provide a future for these boys. We want them to have everything in life that a boy needs, as well as money to put aside for their college fund. Now, as a single parent of 2 boys, Gene is faced with the everyday struggles of being a single parent along with dealing with the pressures of losing the person he loves the most. Between Jessica's family, friends, co-workers, and Gene's continuing dedication to local 701, the gun club, and his strong ties to the music community as the drummer and co-founder of Second to None we should be able to help with childcare and provide the future they both dedicated their lives and worked so hard for.

Postpartum depression is the most common complication of childbirth, affecting 11-20% of women who give birth each year.
